Rogowski coils are special types of mutual inductors often used tomeasure high ac and transient currents. Traditional designs arereviewed. The significant sources of error associated with a particularcoil design are identified and examined. A “machinable Rogowskicoil” is introduced and discussed. The reasoning behind criticaldesign choices are discussed. The improved performance of the machinablecoil is compared to that of other designs. Test and calibration methodsare shown and discussed
