Algorithms devoted to perform digital measurements in advancedinstrumentation have sometimes to work with locally periodic signalssampled without an opportune signal synchronization. Errors introducedby this phenomenon are usually reduced and made negligible using asuitable signal windowing. When this solution is not available, circularsampling technique represents an efficient way to overcome the problem.The theory of circular sampling is analyzed in the context of thegeneralized sampling procedure. The relationships obtained guaranteethat one and only one sequence satisfy the imposed sampling conditions.A device able to provide the sampling condition according to the abovementioned theory has been studied and designed
