Static compression testing was performed on small braidedglass fiber rods inserted in corrugated cardboard as part of alightweight crash panel. This study showed that:1. Braided rods with a taper show much betterprogressive crushing than those without and have aspecific energy absorption that is approximately 1.5times larger. All rods with a taper display radial fibersplaying initiating at the tapered tip.
