Feeding position for determination of horizontal polarization on the marine radar antenna

This paper present an antenna design for marine radar with horizontal polarization. Varying of feeding position for microstrip antenna is proposed to determine a horizontal polarization. This variation is done to obtain the best feeding position so as to allow the antenna to be arranged horizontally. The analysis is carried out by observe four microstrip antennas with different feeding position. The antennas were fabricated on a substrate with a relative dielectric permittivity of 2.2 and a thickness of 0.508mm with 50ohm SMA (Sub Miniature version A) connector as a feeding. The direction of electric field became a parameter to determine an antenna polarization. From the calculation shows the proposed antennas have an operating frequency at 9.3GHZ and horizontal polarization. The best array structure that can be realized is microstrip antenna with slot using feeding line technique.
