Battery energy storage systems (BESS) are expected to play an important part in future distribution networks. This paper analyses its impacts on the electricity demand profile through different scenarios of residential BESS uptake within the network serviced by a 33 kV/11 kV distribution substation in the state of Queensland, Australia. Two scenarios are considered: residential customers with rooftop photovoltaic (PV) and residential customers with rooftop PV and BESS. The load profiles of these scenarios are used to construct an aggregate demand profile. Load profile of customers with rooftop PV is characterised by the average demand reduction. BESS integration with rooftop PV is characterised by the average and peak demand reduction. These characteristics are reflected in the aggregate demand profile in proportion with the BESS uptake within the analysed network.
