This paper puts forward a new aluminum reductioncell shell technology, specifically a pre-stressed shell.The technology was developed in order to solve thebreakage of aluminum reduction shell caused by largedeformation. The work is based on pre-stressingtechnology research and application in the field ofsteel structures. By pre-stressing the shell cradle, thetechnology significantly improves the cell structuralperformance, increases structure safety, reduces materialsconsumption and is beneficial to prolong the celllife. This paper introduces the design method (forceanalysis and experimental research), detailed measurementsof the pre-stressed shell and gives the applicationexample.
