Water is a natural and finite resource. The population growth and urbanization require an increasing demand in water around the world. In order to manage water resources in a sustainable manner, storm water reuse has been a popular method of augmenting existing water supplies. This paper uses Genetic Algorithms (GA) approach to optimize a storm water system: Green Gully to maximize its mass flow rate given that this system is full of water without air. Green Gully is a storm water quality improvement device (SQID) which can manage storm water and protect litter and pollutant from entering river. In this paper, a parametric study is carried out to indentify the influence of significant design parametersCcorner fillet changes on the performance. Data is collected by using software FLUENT for flow simulation. The outcomes of simulation are three corner fillet changes significantly influencing the system’s mass flow rate. The proposed method based on Genetic Algorithms (GA) is validated and compared with current storm water system as a case study, which demonstrates a remarkable efficiency by improving 10.19% mass flow rate.
