A Novel Weight Window Design Approach

Weight windows are extensively used in spectral analysis of signals, e.g., range, Doppler and angle estimation in radars, audio processing and many other applications. In this paper, we present a novel approach for designing weight window functions which, unlike the well-known repertoire of standard window designs used in spectral analysis, provides the flexibility to shape the leakage profile of the designed weight window differently in different frequency bands, allowing one to make a more controlled trade-off between the key performance metrics of the window. We demonstrate the efficacy of some example weight windows designed using the proposed method in the context of FMCW radar Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) processing.
