Laminar fuel-air counterflow diffusion flames (CFDFs) were previously studied using axisymmetric convergent-nozzle and straight-tube opposed jet burners (OJBs) and selected diagnostic (techniques. Strain-induced extinction limits (flame strength) were determined for N_2-diluted H_2 versus clean air, and also H_2 versus contaminated-air, to assess possible effects of air contaminants from test facilities on flameholding processes in H_2-fueled supersonic airbreathing combustors.
