We have proposed and studied the performance of a measurementbased MAC protocol for wireless packet data communications in thepresence of co-channel interference. A fuzzy logic based algorithm isused to control the permission probability of each TDMA slot based onthe interference and traffic conditions. This algorithm provides anadaptive access mechanism to achieve a balance between trafficthroughput and signal quality. We performed computer simulations tostudy the protocol sensitivity to various system parameters. Performancemeasures includes average delay, protocol efficiency and channelutilization. Compared with the unmodified PRMA, this protocol canprovide significant improvement since it is adaptive to trafficintensity and interference conditions.
