In this paper, the error performance of multilevel (block) codedasymmetric 8-PSK modulations with multistage decoding and unequal errorprotection (UEP) is analyzed. Upper bounds on the corresponding biterror rates (BER) are derived by union bound arguments. Also simpler andtighter approximations are evaluated by considering asymmetries andeffective nearest neighbors
