A new method for reducing peak to average power ratio (PAR) inmulticarrier systems is presented. The PAR is reduced by adding timedomain signals to the data sequence that lay in a disjoint frequencyspace to the multicarrier data symbols. With this formulation, optimizing the time domain signal leads to a convex optimization problemthat can be transformed into a linear program (LP). Solving the LPexactly leads to PAR reductions of 6-10 dB, but a simple gradientalgorithm could achieve most of this reduction after a few iterations. These additive signals can be easily removed from the received signalwithout transmitter-receiver symbol handshake
