The NCAR/CCM3 general circulation model (GCM) is coupled withregional weather prediction model PSU/NCAR MM5 for regional climatestudies. The main motivation for this effort comes from the observationthat the representation of sub-GCM grid scale forcing is critical toaccurately simulate the regional distribution of climatic variables suchas air temperature and precipitation over meso-scale regions. UsingPSU/NCAR MM5 driven by NCAR/CCM3 large scale fields, 1-day events overNE Asia (centered on the Korean Peninsula) is simulated. In this casestudy, the mechanical coupling methodology and the results of testsimulation are shown.
