The implementation of a generalised modus-ponens inference schemein a fuzzy rule-base leads to the problem of selecting a suitable fuzzyimplication operator and triangular norm. In this paper, adistance-based criterion to assess a suitable fuzzy implication operatorand triangular norm is proposed and applied to eight well-known fuzzyimplication operators and three sup-T compositions. The well-knownGödel and Gaines operators both outperform the other operatorsconsidered for all compositions investigated
