Results of research into the use of fuzzy set theory formulticriteria decision making are presented. The application of amulticriteria approach is associated with the need to solve: 1) problemsin which solution consequences cannot be estimated with a singlecriterion; 2) problems which can be solved on the basis of a singlecriterion, however their unique solutions are not achieved because theuncertainty of information produces decision uncertainty regions. Inaccordance with this, two classes of models are considered with usingthe Bellman-Zadeh approach and the technique of fuzzy preferencerelations, respectively, to their analysis. Advantages opened up bytheir application are discussed. The results are of a universalcharacter, have found applications, and are illustrated by consideringproblems of power engineering
