Computer-based multimedia applications in the fundamentals of fluidmechanics

The Multidisciplinary Engineering Curriculum Development Group atthe University of Minnesota is creating computer-based instructionalmodules on the fundamentals of fluid mechanics for second-yearengineering students. A team of faculty is collaborating withprofessional instructional designers, editors, and programmers. Themodules focus on fundamental concepts and feature closely integratedgraphical and mathematical representations with a minimum of descriptiveand interpretative text. The paper describes the instructional materialsand strategies that have been developed in the fundamentals of fluidmechanics and describes some of the testing and evaluation that has beenconducted
