Dynamics of intraaortic counterpulsation with double-segmentedballoons

The dynamics of a double-segmented intraaortic balloon and itsinteraction with the cardiovascular system were characterized by use ofan analog electrical model. With computer simulations the modelgenerated a broad spectrum of data regarding the effectiveness of thecardiac assistance. The result showed that, with proper balloonconfigurations and inflation/deflation rates, a double-segmented designimproved the diastolic augmentation. However, no improvement on thesystolic unloading was observed
