The joint electroreduction of CO_3~(2-) and MoO_4~(2–) ions on amolybdenum cathode in a NaCl-KCl-Li_2CO_3-Na_2MoO_4 melt wasstudied by cyclic voltammetry. The electrochemical synthesis ofMo_2C on molybdenum and graphite substrates has been performed.In all cases Mo_2C coatings with the hexagonal lattice wereobtained. The molybdenum carbide coatings on a molybdenumsubstrate (Mo_2C/Mo) show catalytic activity in the water gas shift(WGS) reaction at least three orders of magnitude higher than thatof the bulk Mo_2C phase. It was found that the H_2S does not affecton the activity, stability, and selectivity of the catalyst.
