A knowledge-based information-access system for thetelecommunications environment

The computing environment at Ameritech features a distributedtelephone network and a wide range of applications. In order to examinethe role of knowledge-based tools for information access in adistributed network and the concept of a standard human-machineinterface for varied applications, a prototype called KIS(knowledge-based information-access system) has been developed. KISprovides an integrated presentation of the different forms of data, suchas text and graphics. The KIS model attempts to separate the semanticsof the user interface from those of an application.
