Faced with short development cycle times and increasing challengesfor R&D managers to demonstrate their contribution to the bottomline, a simple method is needed to determine the critical fewimprovements that will deliver tangible results. In a groundbreakingstudy, Product Development Consulting, Inc. (PDC) joined LucentTechnologies in administering Bell Laboratory's Product DevelopmentProcess Maturity Assessment at 20 leading companies in computerproducts, telecommunications, aerospace and electronic equipment. Thedata gathered from these assessments provide a calibration againstleading edge companies on 103 key R&D processes. This presentationreviews case studies in using the survey, insights about the state ofthe industry in product development maturity along with a detailedanalysis on key product development areas that demonstrate enhancedbottom line results and competitive advantage
