EFFECT OF GAMMA IRRADIATION ON CREEP PROPERTIES OF CEMENT PASTE ANALOGUES

Calcium Silicate Hydrates with Ca/Si = 0.75, 1, and1.33 were synthesized and irradiated to an absorbed doseof ~ 25 Mgy. Chemical analyses and nanoindentation testswere performed on irradiated and control samples.Structural analyses showed no loss of interlayer water withirradiation as per the position of the basal peak in XRDpatterns. The basal distance was ~12Å, ~11Å, and ~10Åfor Ca/Si = 0.75, 1, and 1.33 respectively. Thermalanalyses indicated a similar weight loss percentage (16-17%) at 1000˚C for both control and irradiated samples,suggesting no change in total water content withirradiation. Nanoindentation tests for creep responseshowed less creep for irradiated than control samples.
