The properties of the oxide films on solution-annealedand cold worked 316L stainless steel specimens with orwithout charged-hydrogen in deaerated pressurizedwater reactor primary water at 300°C are investigated.Hydrogen enhanced outward diffusion of Fe ions favorsthe formation of large oxide particles on the outer oxidelayer. Ni-enrichment near the inner oxide/matrix (O/M)interface is not affected by charged-hydrogen. Thethickness of the Cr-rich inner oxide layer formed on thehydrogen-charged specimen is thicker than that on theuncharged specimen. In hydrogen-charged cold worked316L specimen, a clear boundary close to the O/Minterface is observed. The coupling effect ofcharged-hydrogen and prior cold work on acceleratingthe oxidation process was shown by the significantincrease of the thickness of the Cr-rich inner oxidelayer.
