AUTOMATIC PACKET REPORTING SATELLITE SYSTEM

There is a need in the Amateur Radio Service for a satellitesystem dedicated to mobile communications. To date there are avariety of amateur communication satellites operating on most ofthe VHF and UHF bands. All of these channels either requiresophisticated antenna systems (AO-10,13) or sophisticated modemsand computers (AO-16,19,23) and all rely on tracking programs foraccess prediction. Except for an occasional cumbersome contact,none of the satellites is readily available for mobilecommunications. since only satellites can provide theconnectivity anywhere on the earth necessary to support worldwide mobile communications, we seem to have our space assetsfocused on the wrong applications.
