Nickel (Ni) based superalloys are most commonly used for high temperature applications(advanced turbine engines, etc.). Several alloying additions such as molybdenum (Mo) andrhenium (Re) are used to further enhance their high temperature properties. However, Mo and Reconcentrations have to be finely controlled to avoid any detrimental effect on the mechanicalproperties due to specific phase formation. In order to improve the mechanical properties ofNi-based superalloys, phase equilibria investigation of the Mo–Ni–Re system is necessary. Usingelectron probe microanalysis (EPMA), binary and ternary compositions have been investigated onisothermal sections of the Mo–Ni–Re system at 1,200 °Cand 1,600 °C.
