Metallic glasses are very attractive materials as they present high mechanical properties compared with their crystalline counterparts. However, most of them are obtained by casting which limits their size. To bypass this problem, powder metallurgy could be a solution. This study concerns a conventional metallic glass ZrCuNiAlTi (commercial VIT105), manufactured either by selective laser melting (SLM) or spark plasma sintering (SPS). Microstructure and mechanical properties are characterized. The materials obtained have very high mechanical characteristics, confirming therefore their interest. The advantages/disadvantages of the two techniques are discussed, in order to evidence their potentialities and limitations.
