The fully coupled aero-hydrodynamic analysis of a floating offshorewind turbine (FOWT) is investigated. This is a complex study becauseit needs to predict the aerodynamics of wind turbine, hydrodynamics offloating platform, and their interactions accurately, especially in theextreme sea states. The hybrid model qaleFoam, combines the fullynonlinear potential theory (FNPT) and the two-phase Navier-Stokes(NS) model, is applied. An example with a focused wave and uniformwind is considered to represent the extreme condition. The coupledeffect on the aerodynamic loads of turbine blades, hydrodynamicbehaviors of the supporting platform and the detailed flow fieldinformation in the wake region is analyzed. The results show that thishybrid model works well in the modeling of the FOWT coupledanalysis.
