This paper will describe some learning of practitioners involved inapplication of IMO Polar Code to new construction ships for Polaroperations considering ship-owners and ship-operators perspectives:where Lloyd’s Register staff have acted in an advisory capacity to shipownersand ship-operators for preparation of an operational assessmentto define technical specification requirements as well as a first step ofprocess to create an onboard Polar Water Operations Manual (PWOM)and shipbuilder perspectives where Lloyd’s Register staff have acted inan advisory capacity to shipbuilders on technical specificationrequirements where a Polar Ship Certificate is to be specified for a newconstruction ship. And the paper will conclude with a summary of adesirable, or optimal, process for consideration of Polar Codecompliance in a technical specification for a new construction shipdrawing on the previous sections including insights from practitionerlearning from ship-owner and ship-operator as well as shipbuilderperspectives.
