Is it wishful thinking or will the public library survive anyhow?

'Public libraries and economic development' seems to be an impossible theme. Because then the question arises whether public libraries have an important role to play in economic development. Or to be more specific: whether they have a role at all to play in the economic development of many countries, including my own country, the Netherlands.
