The Ariane 5 launcher which is due to blast off from its new ELA 3 launch pad, in French Guiana in 1995, will soon be the newest member of the Ariane family. The well optimized concept will help reduce launch costs, increase reliability and performance and thereby improve the Ariane launch service even more. It will reinforce Arianespace leadership in the commercial GTO market, preserve Europe's autonomous access to space for all orbits and sustain the advanced know-how of the main industrial partners and European space agencies.
