Abstract: This paper describes a third-generation multi-modex-ray imager whose applications include low-dosefluoroscopy, cine, spot films, and radiography. Inaddition, volumetric CT and applications whoseenvironment includes a 2 tesla magnetic field are alsoin development. The VIP-9 is based on an amorphoussilicon TFT/Photodiode array and x-ray conversionscreen, which is optionally a deposited CsI(Tl) film ora removable Gd$-2$/O$-2$/S screen. There are threeprimary modes of operation: RAD for high resolutionradiographs and spot films; Fluoro for video rate, lowdose fluoroscopy as well as cine; Zoom for highresolution, limited field of view (FOV) fluoroscopy.Through improved electronics, the imager has greatersensitivity at low doses and far better rejection ofcorrelated line noise than its predecessors. Inaddition, the VIP-9 incorporates many ease-of-usefeatures absent from earlier prototype imagers. Whileprevious reports have primarily focused on the imagerconstruction and noise issues in large area sensingtechnology, in this paper the emphasis is on featureswhich facilitate integration into a complete imagingsystem and measures of image quality. !11
