Yb3+ borate laser glasses containing high-valency cations

Abstract: A new kind of Yb$+3$PLU$/ borate laser glass containing high valency cations was reported in this work. B$-2$/O$-3$/-ZnO and B$-2$/O$-3$/-BaO glasses were chosen as the base glasses of Yb$3$PLU$/-BaO glasses were chosen as the base glasses of Yb$+3$PLU$/ ions. Yb$+3$PLU$/ ion has a large integrated absorption area in the former and longer fluorescent lifetime in the latter. The effect of Al$+3$PLU$/, La$+3$PLU$/, Ti$+3$PLU$/, Zr$+4$PLU$/, Nb$+4$PLU$/ Ta$+5$PLU$/, W$+6$PLU$/ high valency cations on the absorption and fluorescent behaviors of Ba$-2$/O$-3$/-ZnO- R$-m$/O$-n$/-Yb$-2$/O$-3$/ and B$-2$/O$-3$/-BaO-R$-m$/O$- n$/-Yb$-2$/O$-3$/ glasses was examined. Some Yb$+3$PLU$/ borate laser glasses with high cross section for stimulated emissions, good stability, good stability against devitrification and lower non-linear refractive index were presented. !5
