Measurements of residential power frequency magnetic fields haveshown that a service entrance grounding system can be a source ofmagnetic fields in homes. Several typical service entrance groundingschemes found internationally are discussed. With growing interest inpossible health effects from power frequency magnetic field exposure, the contribution to residential field levels from grounding systemcurrents needs to be characterized. Should a future need arise to modifythe field levels from grounding systems, a clear understanding ofpossible grounding scheme alternatives needs to be developed. Thecharacteristic differences in residential grounding practices fromseveral areas of the world are explored. No attempt is made tocomprehensively describe all varieties of residential grounding schemesfound worldwide, nor to discuss the relative merits of each scheme withrespect to safety. Rather, observations of how grounding schemedifferences in Australia, Germany, Japan, UK and USA can produce avariety of resulting magnetic field levels in homes are discussed
