Considerations in the use of current limiting fuses on pole-typetransformers

A review of the application of an individual current limiting fuseon pole-type distribution transformers is given. Current limiting fuseswere originally applied at pole-type transformer locations for the solepurpose of limiting the pressure buildup in the tank due to a highcurrent internal fault. Through specific examples, additional operatingadvantages are discussed, such as fault differentiation and the easierupstream device coordination available today, due to significantimprovements in pole-type distribution transformer device options
