The planning, design, and installation of a 138 kV extrudeddielectric transmission system are discussed. Construction alternativesand project considerations are reviewed as well as cable selection,design, testing, and installation. Improved cross linked polyethylene(XLPE) transmission cables are increasingly being considered as analternative to conventional cable systems at higher voltages.
