A high-level communication mechanism for intelligent cooperativesystems

In this paper we are concerned with inter-agent communicationprocesses to support intelligent collaborative reasoning mechanisms,which are necessary for the implementation of computer supportedconcurrent engineering systems. Following a brief overview of theresearch efforts in inter-agent communication, this paper describesbriefly the VirtualTeam system's architecture. A design example is usedto illustrate the implementation of the speech-act based communicationmechanisms
