A sliding mode observer based controller for switched reluctancemotor drives

In this paper a second order sliding mode observer is proposed forstate estimation in a switched reluctance machine (SRM). The estimatedrotor position obtained from the observer is used for the electroniccommutation of the machine phases. The proposed sliding mode observerprovides a robust method of indirect rotor position sensing usingterminal measurements of phase voltage and currents.
