The design and performance of a range of general-purpose industrialSR drives for 1 kW to 110 kW

The authors describe the evolution of a switched reluctance (SR)drive family for industrial applications from formulation of thespecification to prototype test results. The specification is based onthe use of standard induction motor frames and the requirement forconstant maximum torque to base speed of 1.5 times the nominal inductionmotor rating. The totality of the design optimization is emphasized.This leads to high efficiencies, excellent low-speed thermalperformance, and continuous ratings above the nominal rating. Testresults are presented which show the steady-state and dynamicperformances of prototype drives
