Transmission planning issues for tetherless access communicationsystems

The author discusses objectives for basic end-to-end voicetransmission parameters in digital tetherless communication systems,including the voice terminal. To optimize the performance of the voiceservices delivered through the public network access architecture it isnecessary to develop a transmission plan which is compatible with theexisting public switched telephone network transmission plan; isconsistent with the evolving digital network loss plans; and takes intoaccount the increase in delay and impact of echo in the tetherlesssystems. The author addresses the engineering of a transmission plan fordigital tetherless communications systems which meets these objectives
