A study on appropriate function allocation for an end customercontrolled network operation system computer networks

Appropriate function allocation is presented that improves thetotal performance of an end customer control (ECC) system connected bynetworks that accommodate various speeds of communication. A four-layerfunctional architecture for an ECC's functional distribution isproposed. It consists of a network element function, a terminal functionrealized by efficient terminals, and two management functions: onemanages end customers, the other manages network elements. Thecharacteristics determined from an ECC prototype system based on theproposed architecture prove the merit of the architecture
