The authors propose a time-division multiple-access (TDMA)satellite communication system suitable for integrated services digitalnetwork (ISDN) services for both basic interface services and primaryinterface services. The proposed system offers B-channel transmissionlines among telephone offices and subscriber lines for basic and primaryinterface services. To provide these service economically andefficiently, the proposed system uses an offset QPSK burst modem coupledwith high-coding gain forward-error correction in addition to demandassignment technology for each data burst and a transmitting andreceiving transponder hopping TDMA scheme. Major functions of TDMAterminals have been implemented in LSICs, monolithic ICs, and hybridICs. The experimental results show little Pedegradation for the offset QPSK burst modem and perfect operation of thedemand assignment and carrier hopping capability of the developed system
