A new medical data management concept in a hybrid cellular mobileradio communication network

Patient data produced by different medical diagnostic imagesystems (modalities) are transferred into the medical informationenvironment (MIE) and saved in common databases, by means of a PACS(picture archiving and communication system). Physicians handle thepatient data on medical workstations, employing special displaying andprocessing techniques. The authors present a novel concept for theintegration of patient data handling, using a prototype unified imageviewing (UIV) scheme, applicable to a national wide-area communicationnetwork (NWCN). For this purpose, they investigate, study, and analyze anational-type cellular mobile communication network for UIV medicalapplication, in regard to the increase in traffic capacity, by adoptinga novel channel assignment strategy in conjunction with accepted digitaltransmission methods (data format-modulation and error control)
