A cylindrical XLPE power cable sample with 6 mm thick XLPEinsulation was heated in stages from 30° C to 90° C with 50 kV DCapplied. At each temperature the current through the XLPE and theaccumulation of space charge within it were recorded over several hours. The equilibrium space charge and current densities increased rapidlywith increasing temperature. Electron injection/extraction at theelectrodes and a spatially-inhomogeneous distribution of permanentdipolar molecules in the XLPE bulk are indicated
