The work reported here looks at the nature of barriers whenencompassed by a matrix at elevated temperatures. Polyester samplescontaining barriers such as film, glass cloths and micapaper were testedfor bond strength, tree lifetime and barrier strain. In cases where thematerial was strong enough the barrier's mechanical properties were alsomeasured
