The authors report on current-voltage characteristics and radialcurrent distributions of a corona system in which the point is placed atthe axis of a biased metallic cylinder. When a grid is inserted betweenthe point and the plate, in the so-called corona triode, the platecurrent decreases drastically but the current distribution uniformityover the plate is improved. Also discussed is the importance of theuniformity of the current distribution for the charging process ofdielectric foils. In this regard the corona triode behaves in much thesame way as the scorotron systems usually employed in electrophotography
