A new electrode system for AC breakdown measurement was developedand the intrinsic AC breakdown characteristics of low-densitypolyethylene film were studied above room temperature. The AC breakdownmechanisms are discussed based on the dependence of the intrinsic ACbreakdown strengths (Fb) on temperature, the rise rate, and thefrequency of the applied electric field. It is concluded that theelectronic breakdown process is dominant around the room temperatureregion and that the thermal breakdown process is dominant in thehigh-temperature region
