Nonlinear properties of oriented purple membrane films derived from second-harmonic generation under picosecond excitation: prospect of electro-optical measurements of ultrafast photoelectric respon
Abstract: Nonlinear optical properties of oriental purple membrane films (OPMF) were investigated by second harmonic generation from picosecond pulses at 860 nm. A second order nonlinear optical coefficient d$-eff$/ $GRT 1.05 W10$+$MIN@9$/ esu was observed. We propose the use of this nonlinearity for measurement of ultrafast photoelectric response in OPMF after the excitation of bacteriorhodopsin by ultrashort light pulses.!
