This work discusses a direct current control (DCC) approach for shunt active power filter (SAPF) using field-programmable gate array (FPGA). This work focuses on the implementation of an IP based hysteresis current controller dedicated to SAPF for power quality improvement and grid current harmonic elimination. The FPGA-based controller includes all the necessary elements to driving a SAPF. The proposed digital implementation achieves a valuable compromise between good performance and easy hardware implementation, with a minimum execution time and low resources utilization. The entire system is simulated through Matlab/Simulink, and then implemented on Atlys spartan-6 using Xilinx 14.2 ISE.
