This paper proposes a real-time co-simulation platform for wind farm based on RT-LAB and FAST, which can enhance the simulation accuracy of the wind farm. The complete mechanical and aerodynamic models of Wind Energy Conversion System (WECS) are built in FAST developed by National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), and the electrical part is constructed in the RT-LAB. In this way, the advantages of the two simulation tools can be fully utilized, and all dynamic behaviors of WECS can be covered. To guarantee its real-time characteristic, the FAST is running on the Xenomai-based realtime operating system, and it communicates with RT-LAB using User Datagram Protocol (UDP) which is widely applied in the real-time co-simulation. The correctness of the platform for wind farm has been verified by the simulation results.
