On the Performance Analysis of Wireless Transmission over α - μ/Inverse Gamma Composite Fading Channels

More recently, it has attracted wide attention to model shadow fading by applying the inverse gamma distribution in wireless transmission. In this paper, we present a composite α - μ/inverse gamma fading model, which is a generalized version of the well-known Fisher-Snedecor ℱ composite fading model. The Fisher-Snedecor ℱ model has been introduced in the emerging 5G applications, such as massive MIMO and D2D (device-to-device). For this novel α - μ/inverse gamma model, we first derive its theoretical expressions of the statistical characteristics by using the definition of univariate Fox's H-function in terms of Mellin-Barnes type contour integral. Then, capitalizing on the above statistical expressions, some novel and exact closed-form and asymptotic expressions of performance criteria, such as the outage probability, the amount of fading, the average bit/symbol error probability (ABEP/ASEP), and the average channel capacity, for wireless communication systems are derived, respectively. Especially, the exact expressions of the ASEP of several M-ary modulation schemes are obtained in terms of the multivariate Fox's H-function. Finally, numerical analysis and Monte-Carlo simulations are performed to demonstrate the accuracy of the theoretical expressions.
