Renewable sources are the future of electricity generation in the coming years. The grid-connected renewable systems have created the unbalance of the power in the grid as the power is inserted in grid from several places. It deteriorates the quality of power delivered to the consumer. Stability enhancement is the only choice to make the system reliable. Use of static compensators (STATCOM) has become mandatory at the point of grid connection of the renewable source. It responds fast and tries to enhance power supply quality by suppressing the disturbances in power. The recent development in this technology suggests the use of hybrid models of STATCOM with mechanically operated capacitors. Authors have developed the simulation to realize the hybrid STATCOM in thes Simulink environment. The performance with respect to the harmonic distortion is studied and presented in this paper.
